Kansas among those with broadest scope of practice

New research by Mabel Chang, DC, MPH, Assistant Professor, Clinical Sciences, National University of Health Sciences, shows the current status of chiropractic scope of practice laws in the U.S.

Published July 8, 2014 in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, the study was conducted via a cross-sectional survey of licensure officials from the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards. The survey requested information about chiropractic practice laws and 97 diagnostic, evaluation and management procedures.

The five states with the highest number of services that can be performed are Missouri (92), New Mexico (91), Kansas (89)Utah (89), and Oklahoma (88). The survey concluded that the scope of chiropractic practice in the U.S. has a high degree of variability.

An abstract of "The chiropractic scope of practice in the United States: a cross-sectional survey," is available to the public, and the full text is available to JMPT subscribers on the Journal's website.
